Pune Aeromall Cab Drivers To Go On Strike From December 11
Pune, December 3, 2024: Cab drivers operating at the Pune Airport’s Aeromall have announced a strike starting December 11, protesting against the operations of online cab aggregators like Ola and Uber, which they claim are functioning illegally.
Although the Pune RTO has revoked the licenses of these aggregators, they continue to operate at the Aeromall through agreements with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), as per allegations by the cab drivers. Reports have surfaced in several newspapers highlighting that these companies are charging exorbitant fares from passengers in the absence of regulatory oversight.
Additionally, drivers claim they are not receiving fair compensation as mandated by government standards, while the companies reap significant profits. This exploitative practice, according to the drivers, results in financial losses for both passengers and drivers.
Despite repeated complaints to Pune Airport Authority Director Santosh Dhoke and Aeromall Vice President Y S Rajput, no corrective measures have been taken, the drivers allege. In response, they plan to stage a protest at Aeromall on December 11, refusing to work for these online cab companies. Instead, they will provide direct services to passengers during the strike.
A formal memorandum regarding these grievances has been submitted to Director Santosh Dhoke, Vice President Y S Rajput, and the Senior Police Inspector of the Airport Police Station, informed Dr. Keshav Nana Kshirsagar, President, Indian Gig Workers Forum / Baghtoy Rikshawala.
When Pune Pulse spoke to Y S Rajput, he stated that the no one can disrupt the services to the passengers. The concerned authorities will take action if the protest takes place and inconvenience is caused to the passengers.
