Pune Airport Route Upgrade: Civic Body Orders Fast-Tracking Of Road Widening, Beautification From Gunjan Chowk To Airport
Pune, November 19, 2025: As part of the ongoing efforts to improve Pune city’s traffic flow, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Special) Omprakash Divte conducted an on-site inspection of the stretch from Gunjan Chowk to the Airport Road, as well as the road between Puru Society and Aeromall.
Following the inspection, the Additional Municipal Commissioner issued several directives to concerned department heads and deputy commissioners to expedite traffic improvement and road development works.
Key Instructions Issued:
• The Land Acquisition (TDR) department has been instructed to verify whether the land belonging to Bidkar, located beside 509 Chowk and Puru Society, has been acquired as required for developing all three adjoining roads. Once verified, immediate marking of the land must be carried out.
• The Development Plan (DP) Office must revise its earlier proposal under Section 37 to include a 30-metre road and additional road alignments, as discussed during the inspection. The updated proposal and map should be submitted for approval and public notification.
• Due to land acquisition challenges under PPP projects, some road works cannot be completed in full. The remaining funds saved from such projects should be redirected to complete the road between Puru Society and Shubhamandap. This alternative route is expected to provide an additional access road to the airport at the earliest.
• Developers have already created a dedicated hawkers’ zone under CSR near the area. Officials have been directed to immediately allot this space to registered hawkers, ensure the surrounding roads remain hawker-free, maintain smooth traffic flow and prevent re-encroachment through regular monitoring.
• The existing road between Nagpur Chawl and 509 Chowk should be widened by 1 to 2 metres wherever possible. Architect Wakale has been asked to submit a revised design that preserves existing trees through relocation or protection. As per prior approval from the Municipal Commissioner, the beautification work on this stretch will be taken up by developer Atul Chordia through CSR funding.
