Pune: Alleged ₹5 Lakh Contract Killing of Stray Dogs in Pimpri's Mahindra Antheia Society Sparks Public Fury
In a disturbing development, animal rights activists have alleged that a contract worth ₹5 lakh was orchestrated to eliminate stray dogs residing within the Mahindra Antheia Society in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune. The activists claim to have gathered evidence supporting this allegation, which has been submitted to the police. These claims have ignited widespread anger and calls for accountability from the community.
Separately, in Kalewadi, a tragic incident occurred on the night of April 13, where a dog was brutally beaten to death. According to locals, the assault was so severe that the dog’s eyes protruded due to the beating. A 67-year-old social worker filed a complaint at the Kalewadi police station, leading to an FIR against Satish Jadkar and his accomplice under BNS Section 325 and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Earlier, on April 14, it was discovered that 12 stray dogs within the Mahindra Antheia Society premises had been poisoned. Three dogs died on the spot, while six others succumbed during treatment, raising the death toll to nine. Three dogs remain in critical condition. Activists have expressed deep grief and outrage, demanding strict action against those responsible.

For years, 20 to 22 stray dogs have resided within the Mahindra Antheia Society premises, an area that was originally their habitat before the society’s construction. By law, stray dogs cannot be relocated from one area to another. Despite occasional disputes, these dogs have not bitten anyone or caused significant disturbances. However, some residents have lodged complaints aiming to remove them.
The society is equipped with CCTV cameras, yet no footage has been found showing misconduct by the stray dogs. Activists allege that certain individuals pooled money to pay an outsider to eliminate the dogs, and they have provided evidence to the police for investigation.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the stray dogs’ deaths. While suspicions about a paid contract exist, no concrete evidence has been found yet.
These incidents have drawn attention to the alarming treatment of stray animals in Pune, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws and greater accountability for acts of cruelty.
