Pune, August 10, 2025: In a symbolic Raksha Bandhan protest, residents of Amanora Township, Hadapsar, tied rakhis to trees in the 26-acre Central Garden on August 9, pledging to protect the green space from proposed construction. The move comes after developers allegedly altered the original township plan to reduce the garden’s area and build new structures.

Developed since 2004 under the Special Township Policy, Amanora Township spans about 400 acres and houses over 15,000 completed flats. The Central Garden, showcased prominently in marketing campaigns, has been considered a lifeline for residents. The alleged plan to shrink this green zone has sparked strong opposition, leading to the formation of the Central Garden Protection Committee.

On behalf of the committee, a memorandum has been submitted to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, demanding that the garden’s original size be maintained. Residents have urged the government to conduct an on-site inspection, mark the garden’s boundaries, and ensure compliance with environmental and residents’ rights under the Special Township Policy.

They warned that converting the garden into a construction site could severely impact both the environment and the health of thousands of families. If their demands are not met, residents plan to intensify their protest and explore legal action.
