Arnav Ghatage highlights frustration despite DND registration; companies under fire for continuous calls

A resident of Pune, Arnav Ghatage, has voiced his frustration against Paisabazaar, RBL Bank, and Bajaj Finance for incessant spam calls despite being registered under the Do Not Disturb (DND) service. Ghatage, who works as an analyst for a security company, took to social media on Sunday after receiving nine spam calls in a single day from the mentioned financial entities.

“Received 9 calls today from Paisabazaar, RBL Bank, and Bajaj Finance,” he wrote. “I block the number each time, but they always call from a new one. I’ve set DND everywhere and repeatedly asked them not to call, but it doesn’t seem to work.”

In an interview with a News Agency, Ghatage expressed his exasperation, stating that despite downloading the Paisabazaar app last year and using Bajaj Finance for car insurance, he continues to receive persistent calls for two years. He emphasized that he doesn’t even hold an account with RBL Bank, making the calls from them particularly unwarranted.

Responding to Ghatage’s social media post, RBL Bank sent an automated message advising him to register on their Do Not Call (DNC) page to stop receiving calls and emails. However, Ghatage criticized the bank’s stance, questioning why registration was necessary when he had already registered for DND.

Paisabazaar and Bajaj Finance have not yet responded to Ghatage’s complaints on social media. This incident mirrors previous instances where consumers have publicly criticized companies for inundating them with spam calls despite regulatory protections like DND.

Earlier in April, a senior doctor in Bengaluru had similarly lambasted HDFC Bank after enduring relentless spam calls offering loans. Dr. Sundar Sankaran, program director at Aster Institute of Renal Transplantation, highlighted the persistence of calls even after attempting to block numbers, escalating to a manager’s call questioning his response.

According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the DND service aims to shield users from unsolicited communication from telemarketers. Users experiencing promotional messages disguised as transactional alerts are encouraged to lodge complaints with their telecom service providers for appropriate action under existing regulations.
