Pune: Andharban Trek, Kundalika Valley Welcome Visitors Again, Online Booking Made Mandatory
Pune, August 11, 2025: After remaining closed for over a month due to overcrowding, the scenic Andharban Trek and Kundalika Valley — two of the most popular monsoon getaways near Pune — reopened for visitors from Saturday, August 9. The Forest Department has introduced stricter regulations this season, including compulsory online booking and eco-friendly measures, to ensure a safer and more sustainable experience.
Nestled within the Sudhagad Wildlife Sanctuary, both spots draw thousands of nature enthusiasts during the rains. However, the surge in footfall during June and July had made crowd management challenging for forest officials, prompting the temporary closure.
Under the new system, visitors must book tickets in advance through the official website (booking.andharban.org). The process includes selecting a date, uploading an ID proof, completing payment online, and receiving a QR-coded confirmation, which will be scanned at the entry point. Walk-in entries will not be permitted.
Entry will be allowed only between 6:00 am and 11:30 am, and all trekkers must exit by 4:30 pm. Both locations will remain closed on Mondays.
To reduce plastic waste, tourists will be required to pay a refundable deposit of ₹50 for each plastic item they carry inside. The amount will be returned when the items are taken back after the trek. Additionally, hiring a registered guide will be mandatory.
Forest officials emphasised that these guidelines aim to protect the rich biodiversity of the area while allowing visitors to enjoy its natural charm. This is about more than just sightseeing; it’s about respecting the forest and preserving it for the future.

With the Sahyadris in their monsoon glory, trekkers can once again explore Andharban and Kundalika Valley — this time, with a renewed focus on safety and environmental responsibility.
