Pune: Army Officer Rescues Driver After Car Plunges Into Bhairoba Nala In Wanowrie, Exemplifies Bravery and Integrity
Pune, February 6, 2026: Pune once again witnessed the human side of the Indian Army, as an army officer turned into a real-life saviour during a terrifying road accident in the Wanowrie area. Beyond saving a life, the officer also set an inspiring example of integrity by safely returning the injured driver’s cash.
The incident took place near the Bhairoba Nala bridge, close to the Ganga Satellite Society in Wanowrie, at around 10 am. A speeding car reportedly went out of control and plunged straight off the bridge into the nala below. The impact was severe, leaving the vehicle badly damaged and the driver trapped inside in an unconscious state.
At the time of the accident, Army officer Ashish Kumar Yadav happened to be passing through the same road. Noticing a crowd gathered on the bridge and sensing something was wrong, he stopped his vehicle. On seeing the car submerged in the nala and signs of movement inside, he immediately rushed down without regard for his own safety.
With the help of local residents, Officer Yadav broke the car window and pulled the injured driver out. The victim was bleeding heavily from the nose and was unconscious. Using his military training, Yadav applied first aid on the spot, pressing the wound with his handkerchief to control the bleeding until further help arrived.
During the rescue, it was found that the damaged car contained cash amounting to nearly ₹1 to ₹1.5 lakh. In the chaos, the money could easily have gone missing. However, Officer Yadav kept the cash safely with him. Once the driver regained consciousness, he honestly handed over the cash bag to him.
The injured driver was later shifted to a hospital with the help of a tempo. Officer Ashish Kumar Yadav’s swift action, courage, and honesty have drawn widespread appreciation from citizens across Pune, once again highlighting the selfless spirit of the armed forces.
