Pune: Bhide Bridge to Remain Closed for 1.5 Months for Metro Footbridge Construction
The first phase of the Pune Metro project has been completed, and all stations under this phase are now open for travel. Pune Metro is implementing several measures to improve accessibility to metro stations. As part of this initiative, pedestrian bridges are being constructed to connect Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan and Deccan Gymkhana metro stations (on the Vanaz to Ramwadi route) with the central Peth areas of the city.
The bridge connecting Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan Metro Station to the Peth area is in its final stage and will be opened soon. Meanwhile, work on the footbridge connecting Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station to the Peth area has begun at a fast pace.
This footbridge will be built above the Bhide Bridge on the Mula River. Once completed, it will make it significantly easier for residents of Narayan Peth, Shanivar Peth, and Laxmi Road, as well as students traveling to this area, to access Deccan Metro Station.
Due to the commencement of construction, the Bhide Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic from 12 am on Sunday night, April 20, 2025 (Monday early morning), until June 6, 2025—a period of one and a half months. However, the road along the river will remain open for traffic.
During this period, Pune Metro has appealed to the public to cooperate and use alternative bridges like Lakdi Pul, Balgandharv Bridge, and Z Bridge. Pune Metro assures that work on the Deccan Gymkhana footbridge will be completed as soon as possible. Until then, citizens are requested to use alternative routes.
