Pune: Bopdev Ghat Incident; Victim to Receive Rs 5 Lakh Compensation Under 'Manodhairya Yojana
The Pune District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has approved a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the victim of the Bopdev Ghat gang-rape case under the ‘Manodhairya Yojana’. This decision was confirmed by DLSA Secretary, Sonal Patil, following the victim’s application for financial aid under the scheme.
The incident, which occurred on October 3, involved the gang-rape of a young woman who was out for a walk at Bopdev Ghat, Pune, with a friend. The perpetrators, three men with murder charges, committed the heinous crime, leading to widespread public outrage. The police have since arrested two of the accused, while the third is being interrogated.
The ‘Manodhairya Yojana’, initiated by the Legal Services Authority, provides financial assistance to victims of sexual violence, helping them recover from trauma and rebuild their lives. The victim applied for compensation on October 11, and her application was approved within a week.
The compensation is aimed at offering the victim some measure of relief and support as the legal proceedings continue. Efforts are ongoing to ensure justice is served in this tragic case.
