A businessman from Hadapsar has been swindled out of ₹40 lakh with the false promise of securing a medical seat for his daughter. Six individuals have been booked by Hadapsar police in connection with the fraudulent scheme.
The complainant, a businessman living in Magarpatta City, Hadapsar, was seeking a medical admission for his daughter. Through a mutual acquaintance, he was introduced to the accused, who were based in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. In August last year, the accused assured the businessman that they could secure a seat for his daughter in a private medical college. They demanded a payment of ₹60 lakh for the admission.
The businessman paid the amount in installments, both in cash and online. However, after the payment was made, the accused failed to provide the promised admission. When the businessman sought answers, the suspects gave evasive responses. In an attempt to recover his money, the businessman demanded a refund. While the accused returned ₹20 lakh, they withheld the remaining ₹40 lakh.
Realizing that he had been deceived, the businessman filed a complaint with the police.
The police have charged Sunil Kumar (45), Saurabh Gupta (40), Vikas Gupta (28), Randhir Singh (30), Priyanka Mishra, and one other individual in the case. Assistant Inspector Deepak Berge is leading the investigation under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Mogale.
This case underscores the growing threat of fraudulent practices targeting individuals’ aspirations, particularly in the education sector.
