Pune Citizens Gathers to Pay Tribute to Dog ‘Don’ at Goodluck Chowk After Tragic Accident

In a heartfelt demonstration of respect and affection for a departed canine friend, the residents of Pune came together at Goodluck Chowk on August 13th to honor the memory of ‘Don,’ a dog that tragically lost his life after being struck by a speeding Lamborghini car on August 7th. The event witnessed a poignant gathering of animal enthusiasts, activists, political figures, and compassionate individuals who converged to remember the beloved four-legged companion.

Sushma Date, a dedicated animal lover and a member of the Save Vetal Tekdi Panel Pune, shared, “Don was an exuberant and cherished presence among numerous animal lovers and local residents near Goodluck Chowk. The unfortunate incident where Don was struck by a reckless Lamborghini driver who callously fled the scene, leaving the dog injured, shook our community deeply. People from all walks of life, including animal advocates, acquaintances of Don, politicians, and activists, united at Kalakar Katta on Goodluck Chowk this Sunday to pay their heartfelt respects. It is our hope that such distressing incidents never recur, and that drivers cultivate a sense of civic responsibility, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all.”

Commencing at 6 pm at Kalakar Katta, the tribute featured a heartwarming video showcasing Don’s lively interactions with various individuals, underscoring his significance in the lives of those residing nearby. Attendees shared anecdotes, emotions, and reflections about Don, culminating in a minute of silence as a poignant tribute.

The event drew a substantial turnout of approximately 400 to 500 people who came to pay their respects. The commemoration concluded at 8 pm, leaving a somber yet comforting atmosphere that spoke to the unity of the community in times of loss.

The Deccan police responded swiftly to the incident, initiating an investigation to locate the Lamborghini driver responsible for the accident. According to Vipin Hasabnis, Police Inspector at Deccan Police Station, the driver has since been apprehended, and both the vehicle and the driver are under police custody. A legal notice has been served, and the driver will appear in court for his scheduled hearing.
