The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a plan to reduce the steep slope at two key spots between Gangadham Chowk and Aai Mata Mandir. This move aims to improve safety for motorists on this crucial road segment.

The project, which is already underway, is expected to be completed by early next year. The initiative comes after complaints from road users about the dangerous gradient, which has been linked to multiple accidents. A fatal crash in June prompted PMC to inspect the area and seek long-term solutions.

PMC officials reported that a detailed survey of the road and traffic conditions led to the identification of two critical spots for slope reduction. Additionally, safety measures will be implemented at eight to nine approaches to prevent further issues. An agency is in the process of being appointed to handle the work, with a six-month timeline set for completion.

The slope near Gangadham Chowk is particularly steep, causing vehicles to gain speed uncontrollably. This has resulted in numerous accidents, some of which are not officially recorded due to the lack of fatalities. Temporary measures, such as a ban on heavy vehicles, rumbling strips, and removal of encroachments, were put in place after the June accident, but long-term fixes were still needed.

The stretch is among the busiest in Pune, connecting Bibwewadi, Kondhwa, and Market Yard. During peak hours, motorists can spend 10-15 minutes crossing the junctions. PMC is also considering a flyover to alleviate frequent traffic jams in the area.
