Pune, July 15, 2026: A family court in Pune has granted a divorce to a woman after her husband, currently lodged in jail in connection with an alleged multi-crore investment fraud, consented to the dissolution of their marriage through video conferencing.

The couple, aged 35 and 37, had entered into a love marriage under the Special Marriage Act in 2014 despite strong opposition from the husband’s family. According to court proceedings, the marriage remained stable during its initial years before the relationship deteriorated.

The husband later resigned from his job and started coaching classes offering guidance on stock market investments. As his business grew, he allegedly developed a relationship with a female employee working at the institute and is accused of transferring large sums of money to her bank account without his wife’s knowledge.

The wife alleged that when she confronted him over the matter, she was subjected to mental and physical harassment. She further claimed that she was forced to leave the matrimonial home in 2024.

Separately, the husband was arrested in connection with an alleged investment fraud in which he is accused of cheating around 40 to 50 investors of approximately ₹5–6 crore by promising returns through stock market investments. He has since been in judicial custody.

Seeking relief from continued mental cruelty, the woman filed a divorce petition under Section 27 of the Special Marriage Act through her advocate.

During the hearing before the court of District Judge Mahendra Jadhav, the husband appeared from jail via video conferencing and informed the court that he had no objection to granting the divorce.

After considering the submissions and evidence, the court observed that the husband had neglected his wife and subjected her to emotional and mental cruelty. Taking into account his prolonged incarceration in the alleged fraud case and his consent to the petition, the court allowed the divorce, bringing the 12-year marriage to a legal end.
