Pune: Taking a firm stance against the growing issue of food adulteration, the Pune Crime Branch has successfully intercepted a significant consignment of counterfeit paneer weighing 4,970 kg. The illicit consignment was being transported via a tempo from Karnataka to Pune.

Reportedly, this fake paneer had already made its way to numerous shops and hotels across the city, potentially endangering public health.

In response to a tip-off, a collaborative effort between the Pune Crime Branch and the Food Safety Officer of the Food and Drug Administration was initiated. Their joint operation led them to set up a trap at Katraj Chowk. Their vigilance paid off when a tempo transporting 4,970 kg of spurious paneer was apprehended while attempting to enter the city from Karnataka. The confiscated fake paneer samples were promptly dispatched to a laboratory for thorough analysis.

Subsequent laboratory tests confirmed the suspicions – the seized paneer was adulterated and posed health risks to consumers.
