Pune: Cyber Thief Posing As Army Officer Defrauds Senior Citizen From Kothrud Of ₹5.35 Lakh
Pune: A cybercriminal, pretending to be a military officer, defrauded a senior citizen in the Kothrud area of ₹5,35,200. The incident has been reported to the Kothrud police, and an official case has been registered against the fraudster.
According to the complaint filed by the victim, the fraudster first contacted the senior citizen in December via mobile phone. He posed as a military officer and claimed that he was looking to rent an apartment in the Kothrud area. The fraudster promised to send a security deposit, and soon after, he acquired the senior citizen’s bank account details. Using this information, he transferred ₹5,35,200 from the victim’s account.
Upon realizing the scam, the senior citizen filed a complaint with the police. Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Deshmane is investigating the case.
In another case from the Kothrud area, a cybercriminal also defrauded a victim of ₹29.4 lakh by luring them into an investment scheme involving the stock market. The scammer convinced the victim to participate in a social media group where they were promised high returns on investments. The victim transferred the money into the fraudster’s bank account, but the scammer later blocked their phone number. The victim, realizing the fraud, reported the incident to the police. Police Inspector Vikram Singh Kadam of the Crime Branch is handling the investigation.
