Pune: Metro Pillar Thieves Caught In Shivajinagar, Alert Guard Foils Theft
Pune: Police have arrested six individuals involved in the theft of iron metro pillars worth ₹2 lakh from the Kamgar Putla area in Shivajinagar. The quick action of metro security guard Chandrakant Shelar led to the prevention of the theft and the subsequent arrest of the culprits.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ganesh Machhindra Kamble (48), Aniket Mahendra Kamble (27), Tausifraj Faizahmad Shaikh, Shamshuddin Yusufali Sheikh Mansuri (both residents of Kamgar Putla, Shivajinagar), Wasim Ayub Pathan (32, resident of Indiranagar, Gultekdi), and Mustafa Mustakim Shaikh (35, resident of Kondhwa).
According to the complaint filed by Chandrakant Shelar (51, resident of Thergaon, Chinchwad) at the Shivajinagar Police Station, the theft occurred during ongoing metro construction work on the Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi metro route. The stolen pillars had been stored near the Kamgar Putla area. Two days ago, the accused attempted to steal the iron pillars and load them onto a vehicle for sale in the scrap market.
When Shelar noticed the suspicious activity, he confronted the accused and informed metro officials and the police. Acting swiftly, the police arrested all six individuals involved. Sub-inspector Kaviraj Patil is investigating the case further.
