Pune, April 17, 2024 – In a concerning development, a functional traffic signal pole located in front of IBM, Bhekrainagar, is currently being supported solely by a rope, posing a significant risk of collapse. The severity of this situation prompted the intervention of Ulhas Tupe, the Shivsena chief of Pune District.

The perilous condition of the traffic signal pole was brought to public attention through a viral image circulating on social media platforms, illustrating the pole’s precarious position, suspended only by a rope. If left unaddressed, the imminent collapse of the pole could result in a catastrophic accident, endangering the lives of daily commuters and exacerbating traffic congestion in the area.

Expressing grave concern over the situation, Tupe denounced the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for its inadequate management of infrastructure and transportation systems. He emphasized the urgent need for immediate remedial action, advocating for either the prompt repair of the existing signal pole or the installation of a new one to ensure public safety.

Residents of Bhekrainagar echoed Tupe’s sentiments, citing the prolonged malfunction of the traffic signal as a recurring issue that has disrupted traffic flow, particularly affecting IBM employees leaving the office premises. In response to the persistent problem, IBM has taken proactive measures by deploying private guards to alleviate traffic congestion for its employees.

The looming threat posed by the precarious traffic signal pole underscores the pressing need for concerted efforts by local authorities to prioritize infrastructure maintenance and ensure the safety of residents and commuters alike.
