Pune: Deputy CM Ajit Pawar Inaugurates India’s First Mobile Veterinary Hospital
Pune, June 10: Deputy Chief Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar inaugurated the country’s first-ever mobile veterinary hospital at Hadapsar, Pune.
The event was attended by MLA Chetan Tupe, Pune Municipal Corporation Assistant Commissioner Balasaheb Dhawale, Universal Animal Welfare Society President Dr. Hanumant Shelke, and Secretary Dr. Swati Shelke, among others.
Mission To Eliminate Rabies By 2030
Dr. Hanumant Shelke and Dr. Swati Jogdand Shelke, a veterinary couple, founded the Universal Animal Welfare Society in 2009 in Beed district. With the goal of eradicating rabies by the year 2030, they launched this mobile veterinary hospital.
The initiative addresses multiple challenges faced in rural areas such as the growing population of stray dogs, health hazards caused by dog bites, inadequate veterinary services, lack of accommodation for staff, and other logistical issues. Through this hospital, veterinary services are being delivered across various parts of Maharashtra.
Capacity For 500 Surgeries Per Month
The mobile veterinary hospital spans approximately 2,000 square meters. It includes first-floor accommodations for 10 staff members, a surgical capacity of 500 procedures per month, and shelter for up to 100 dogs. The facility is equipped with an operation theatre, OPD, convertible conference room, kitchen, records room, discussion chamber, air-conditioned and state-of-the-art surgical theatre, solar-powered electricity generation, and services such as OPD consultations, vaccinations, emergency care, and sterilization.
