Pune: Deputy Director of Agriculture Commissionerate Arrested For Bribery Of Rs 3 LakhÂ
In a significant crackdown on corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Sanjay Gunjal, Deputy Director of the Horticulture Department, Agriculture Commissionerate, for demanding a bribe of three lakh rupees from a suspended employee.
The action was taken late on Friday night in Sangamwadi area, where Gunjal was caught accepting a bribe of two and a half lakh rupees from the suspended employee. A case has been registered against Gunjal under the Prevention of Corruption Act at Yerwada Police Station.
According to the complaint filed by the suspended employee, Gunjal had demanded the bribe to help him during his suspension period and to address objections raised against him. The employee, who was a Junior Clerk in Jalgaon Jamod Buldhana during 2019-2020, was suspended from service by the Joint Director of Agriculture, Amravati, for alleged malpractice under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Irrigation Yojana.
The ACB laid a trap after verifying the complaint, and Gunjal was arrested while accepting the bribe. The investigation is being led by Police Inspector Praveen Nimbalkar.
This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts to tackle corruption in government offices and ensure accountability among public officials.
