Pune District Development Committee Focuses On River Pollution Control Measures And Plans To Set Up 10 New Waste Management Units
Pune, August 29, 2025 – The District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting was held today at the District Collector’s Office to review ongoing projects and development plans in Pune district.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, emphasised the need to treat not only major rivers but also smaller tributaries and drains to make the district’s rivers pollution-free. He announced that a joint meeting will soon be organised with Pune Municipal Corporation, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, PMRDA, and the District Council to ensure effective coordination.
Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the District Council will soon launch 10 new projects focusing on waste processing, sewage management, and sanitation, aimed at improving environmental balance.
The Pune Metro has shown significant growth in ridership, increasing from 1.92 lakh passengers in July to 2.13 lakh in August. The second phase of the metro project is in various stages of technical clearance and will be expedited.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi informed that the renovation of Pune Airport’s old terminal will be completed by December 2025, and land acquisition for the new terminal has already begun.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing projects in road development, water supply, sanitation, education, health, social welfare, and renewable energy. The committee stressed transparent and efficient implementation across all sectors to accelerate development in both urban and rural areas.
