Pune : Ex Hadapsar Corporator Reveals Rs 3000 Fee Levied for Pit Digging at Amardham Crematorium

Recently, an incident in Pune has brought to light the imposition of a Rs 3000 charge on the relatives of a deceased individual at the Amardham crematorium located in Hadapsar.
According to the available information, last week, following the demise of an individual from Sasane Nagar, ex-corporator Yogesh Sasane arranged for a Municipal Corporation JCB to excavate a pit at the crematorium. However, this process, scheduled for 9 p.m., was executed around 2 a.m.
Upon interaction with the deceased person’s relatives, Yogesh Sasane discovered that they were charged Rs 3000 at the crematorium. Despite his inquiry at the facility, he was not provided with satisfactory explanations.
Subsequently, Sasane engaged in discussions with the contractor, but no substantial actions were taken by the contractor in response. Ex-Corporator Yogesh Sasane has escalated the matter by notifying senior Municipal Corporation officials and intends to submit a formal written complaint.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sasane expressed, “Even in cities like Pune, the cost-free aspect of death is compromised. A charge of Rs 3000 was levied for the JCB-dug pit. Upon talking to the locals, I learned that this practice has persisted for quite some time. Despite families arranging all the necessary preparations themselves, crematoriums are charging fees.”
