Pune: Firing Outside Kondhwa's Karim’s Cafe Sparks Panic
A heated argument between two groups turned chaotic after a man fired a pistol in the air outside Karim’s Cafe in Kondhwa’s Kausar Baug area late on Saturday night. No injuries were reported, but the incident caused panic and property damage.
The fight began when Abdullah alias Baklab Kuroshi, a resident of Sayyednagar, Mohammadwadi, was seen talking with his girlfriend near the restaurant. Three individuals reportedly objected, asking them not to talk on the roadside. This led to a heated exchange.
Abdullah’s friend, Taimur Ali Pathan, called others for support. Soon, several men armed with swords gathered, and stone pelting began. The group also vandalized vehicles outside the eatery, smashing windows with cement blocks.
Amid the chaos, Abdullah fired a country-made pistol into the air to intimidate the other group. The gunfire caused panic, prompting everyone to flee. Two motorcycles were damaged during the altercation.
Police arrived at the scene and detained two suspects, including Abdullah. An empty cartridge was recovered, and police confirmed the use of an illegal firearm.
A case has been registered against Abdullah and others under charges of rioting, unlawful assembly, common intention, and the Indian Arms Act. The suspects include Taha Sheikh, Noman Pathan, and others.
Inspector Shinde stated that efforts are underway to identify all those involved. Police have warned against such incidents and assured strict action.
The incident has raised concerns about rising violence in the area, with authorities urging residents to remain vigilant. Investigations are ongoing.
