Pune, April 25, 2026: The Pune Forest Department has announced plans to develop a Miyawaki forest on a one-hectare plot along NIBM Road, adjacent to Bramha Majestic Society, aiming to boost green cover with dense plantation of native species.

The move comes amid recent concerns raised by residents over alleged large-scale tree cutting at the site, which had led to confusion and apprehension about the future of the green space.

Responding to queries from Pune Pulse, an official from the Wanowrie Forest Division clarified that the activity on the ground is part of the preparation process for the Miyawaki forest project. The initiative will involve planting indigenous trees in a scientifically designed dense forest model to restore ecological balance in the area.

Vishwas Joshi of the NIBM Road Residents Forum welcomed the development, stating that the plot will soon be transformed into a vital green zone. “Green spaces are depleting rapidly, and this project will bring much-needed environmental relief to residents,” he said.

Bhupesh Sharma of the Anandvan Foundation also confirmed the development, adding that their role will focus on planting and safeguarding native tree species. “Our aim is to support the forest department in creating a sustainable green space for future generations. The area is fortunate to have several reserved forest patches, and this initiative will further strengthen ecological preservation,” he said.

Residents have expressed cautious optimism, hoping the project will enhance biodiversity while addressing concerns over tree loss in the locality.
