Pune Gears Up For Historic Army Day Parade On January 15
The city of Pune is set to make history by hosting the prestigious Army Day Parade for the first time on January 15, 2025. This iconic event, typically held in New Delhi, will showcase India’s military prowess and feature cutting-edge defense technologies.
The parade, which commemorates the formation of the Indian Army, will take place at the Bombay Engineering Group (BEG) and Centre in Pune. Highlights will include demonstrations of cutting-edge defense technologies such as drones and robotics, along with captivating performances like combat demonstrations and martial arts displays.
One of the main attractions will be the marchpast by a special team consisting of eight agile Quadrupedal Unmanned Ground Vehicles (Q-UGV), also known as “robotic mules.” These cutting-edge vehicles, recently inducted into the Army, will showcase futuristic military technology.
The robotic mules, developed by New Delhi-based AeroArc Pvt Ltd, are tele-operable and autonomous, capable of operating in various environments and terrains. They can be used for perimeter security, asset protection, and other applications.
Other attractions at the parade will include state-of-the-art all-terrain vehicles, specialist mobility vehicles, the Pinaka multiple launcher rocket system, and the Sarvatra Bridging system.
This year’s parade marks the third time a city other than Delhi will host the event, following successful parades in Bangalore and Lucknow in 2023 and 2024, respectively. The decision to hold the parade in Pune is part of the government’s efforts to give national events wider visibility and participation.
The Army Day parade is held annually on January 15 to commemorate the occasion when General KM Cariappa took over as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army in 1949.
