The local police community is reeling from the devastating loss of a promising young officer who was found dead in a hotel room in the Deccan Gymkhana area this Wednesday. Suraj Marathe, a 26-year-old Trainee Police Sub-Inspector (PSI), reportedly chose to end his life after a grueling battle with chronic health issues, leaving his colleagues and family in a state of profound grief.

Authorities were alerted to the situation after Marathe, who had been on leave for nearly ten days, stopped responding to calls. Investigators utilized mobile tower location data to track him to a lodge on Apte Road. When the hotel staff received no answer from his room throughout Wednesday morning, they grew concerned and summoned the police. Officers were forced to break down the door, only to find Marathe unresponsive inside. He was immediately transported to Sassoon General Hospital, but medical professionals were unable to revive him.

Suraj Marathe was a resident of Alandi whose family lives in Dehu. He had achieved his dream of joining the police force only two years ago and had recently completed his rigorous probation period. Following his training, he was assigned to the Tasgaon Police Station in Sangli district.

However, his early career was overshadowed by physical suffering. Marathe had been struggling with debilitating knee pain and had recently undergone surgery for an undisclosed ailment. He had officially filed a sick report with the Sangli police and traveled to Pune specifically to seek further medical care. Records show he checked into the lodge on Tuesday afternoon after a hospital visit.

Evidence and Official Response

The investigation, led by Senior Police Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar, suggests that the physical toll of his condition became unbearable. A suicide note was discovered at the scene, providing a window into his final moments of distress.

“The note states that he was ending his life due to his poor health condition. He was recently operated on for some ailment,” confirmed Senior PI Nimbalkar.

In a selfless final gesture, Marathe ensured that his actions would not bring trouble to those he left behind, writing in the note, “No one should be held responsible for my death.”

The young officer was unmarried and is survived by his parents. Currently, the Deccan Gymkhana police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are finalizing the legal formalities.
