Pune: Hinjawadi IT Park Traffic Woes Raised In Assembly; Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap Seeks Immediate Action
Mumbai, July 3, 2025: Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap on Wednesday raised serious concerns in the Maharashtra Monsoon Assembly Session over the worsening traffic congestion in and around Hinjewadi IT Park. Highlighting poor road infrastructure and lack of coordination among civic authorities, Jagtap demanded immediate measures to ease daily commuting challenges faced by IT professionals and local residents.
Addressing the House, MLA Jagtap said, “People travelling to Hinjewadi Phase 1, 2 and 3 are forced to navigate through Bhumkar Chowk, Dange Chowk, Laxmi Chowk, Tathawade, Wakad, Punawale and via the Amsterdam company route, leading to massive traffic snarls. A proposal to develop a 30-metre-wide Ring Road and explore the feasibility of a road through the Mula riverbed from Wakad to Phase 3 must be considered.”
He also pointed out that residents have already filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in court regarding the traffic situation. “There is a dire need to appoint a single traffic planner to coordinate efforts between PMC, PCMC, PMRDA and other agencies,” he emphasized.
Jagtap further urged the government to approve funding for strengthening public transport and implementing an intelligent smart traffic signal system. He also suggested reducing footpath widths under ‘Urban Plan Development’ to widen carriageways for vehicles.
Responding to the concerns, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal assured the House that a high-level joint meeting with all stakeholders and public representatives would soon be convened. She added that after the success of Pune’s AI-based traffic management pilot project on Fergusson Road, the government is considering extending it to Pimpri-Chinchwad and PMRDA areas.
Residents and IT commuters from the constituency have expressed hope for prompt action on these issues.
