Under the theme “योग करूया, निरोगी राहूया”, Pune witnessed one of its grandest International Yoga Day celebrations today, as over 2,500 citizens gathered at the Badminton Hall of Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge-Balewadi. The event was organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services, Maharashtra State, in collaboration with the Amol Balwadkar Foundation.

The atmosphere was charged with energy and enthusiasm as participants of all age groups—from senior citizens to youth—performed various yogasanas under the expert guidance of renowned yoga trainer Pallavi Kavanhe and her team. The session included postures, breathing exercises, and meditation practices, highlighting the importance of yoga in maintaining physical and mental well-being.

Residents from Baner, Balewadi, Pashan, Sus, and Mhalunge turned up in large numbers, showcasing strong community involvement. Special groups like the Laughter Yoga Club, Baner Runners, Krida Prabodhini athletes, and multiple housing society residents actively participated in the early morning gathering.

To promote greater participation, all registered attendees received a complimentary yoga kit—including a t-shirt and mat—courtesy of the organizers. The initiative not only encouraged turnout but also helped in spreading awareness about the health benefits of yoga.

The event echoed this year’s international theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” aligning wellness with environmental consciousness. Speaking after the event, Amol Balwadkar expressed gratitude for the overwhelming public response and emphasized the need to make yoga a regular part of life for a healthier future.
The successful execution of the event stood as a testament to Pune’s growing commitment toward holistic health and community fitness.
