Tragedy Strikes Again: 19-year-old Girl Booked After Speeding Mercedes Kills Woman in Kharghar
Mumbai: Rekha Yadav died on the spot while her husband sustained serious injuries; driver Tithi Singh taken into custody
In a chilling reminder of recent high-speed crash cases involving luxury cars, a 19-year-old engineering student has been booked after her speeding Mercedes-Benz fatally struck a couple riding a scooter near the Hiranandani Bridge in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. The accident, which occurred around 8:45 pm on Wednesday, resulted in the death of 50-year-old Rekha Yadav and left her husband, Gopal Yadav (54), seriously injured.
The accused has been identified as Tithi Singh, a resident of New Panvel and daughter of a wealthy businessman. She was reportedly returning from Belapur after meeting friends when her car rammed into the scooter carrying the Yadavs on the Shiv-Panvel highway. The impact of the collision flung both victims into the air, causing Rekha to suffer fatal head injuries. Gopal Yadav was left with severe injuries to his leg, hand, and face.
Bystanders rushed to the aid of the couple and took them to MGM Hospital in Kamothe. Doctors declared Rekha dead on arrival while Gopal continues to receive treatment. Rekha worked as a receptionist at a private hospital in Pantnagar, Ghatkopar. The couple had been on their way home to the Devad area of Panvel when the accident took place.
Kharghar Police have arrested Tithi Singh and registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicle Act. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area and recording statements from eyewitnesses to piece together the events that led to the fatal crash.
This incident has sparked public outrage, drawing comparisons to the recent Pune Porsche case involving another teenager from an influential background. Investigations are ongoing, and further legal action will follow once the complete evidence is assessed.
