Pune Industries Set for Energy Boost As Government Plans 100% PNG Connectivity In MIDC Areas
Pune, March 30, 2026: In a major push to ensure uninterrupted and reliable energy supply to industries in Pune district, Industries Minister Uday Samant announced a mission-mode campaign to achieve 100% piped natural gas (PNG) connectivity across all MIDC areas. The initiative will follow the principle of “connection on demand” for every eligible industry.
The announcement was made during an industry review meeting held at the District Collector’s office amid the prevailing war-like situation. Senior officials including Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Superintendent of Police Sandeepsing Gill, and representatives from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation and various industry bodies were present.
Samant directed all concerned departments to coordinate effectively and organize special camps to expedite the PNG connection process. He emphasized that maintaining industrial productivity is crucial for the state’s economy, especially in the current global scenario. Highlighting the benefits of natural gas, he said it is a cost-effective, safe, and environmentally friendly energy source, and no industry should face disruptions due to lack of gas connectivity.
On LPG supply, the minister clarified that domestic consumers are being prioritized, while commercial gas distribution is being carried out as per Central government guidelines. He warned of strict action against agencies involved in creating artificial shortages or black marketing. Citizens were urged to report such activities immediately by dialing the toll-free number 112.

As part of the campaign, district-wise and industrial cluster-wise camps will be conducted to simplify application procedures, speed up technical inspections, and resolve pending cases. The initiative is expected to significantly boost the Ease of Doing Business in the region.
Speaking on renewable energy, Samant announced that land within MIDC areas will be made available on long-term leases of up to 30 years for setting up solar power projects. This will help industries reduce electricity costs and move towards energy self-sufficiency.
Addressing other industrial concerns, he stressed the need for coordinated efforts between the district administration, police, municipal bodies, and MIDC to create a secure and business-friendly environment. Balanced development of logistics, infrastructure, and security was highlighted as essential.
During the meeting, it was also informed that development works worth approximately ₹350 crore are underway to strengthen internal roads in MIDC areas. In Hinjawadi, land has been allocated for constructing permanent sanitation facilities to replace temporary mobile toilets, with industry associations urged to take the lead.
Additionally, proposals were discussed to develop world-class corporate guest houses in industrial belts such as Hinjawadi, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Chakan, on the lines of Baramati MIDC. Plans for truck terminals and improved security infrastructure, including police stations, were also deliberated.
Industry associations raised concerns over financial stress, particularly among small-scale industries, due to the ongoing global situation, and requested an extension for electricity bill payments. Samant assured that the matter would be discussed with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for a positive resolution.
To ensure faster grievance redressal, the minister also instructed the formation of WhatsApp groups in every MIDC area to improve coordination among industry representatives, administration, and police.
Divisional Commissioner Dr. Pulkundwar stated that a special meeting will soon be convened to ensure effective implementation of all decisions taken during the review.
