Pune : Jai Jai Maharashtra Cha becomes official state song

The Maharashtra state cabinet on January 31 accepted Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha as the official song of the state. The patriotic song will be officially adopted on the birth anniversary of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj on February 19.

This makes Maharashtra the 12th state to have a song for itself. The song was written by Neelkanth Badhe, a poet. The state government made the announcement on the eve of Badhe’s birth anniversary which is on February 1. The state government has designated two stanzas of the song as the state song.

Sudhir Mungantiwar, minister for state cultural affairs stated that the song will be sung after the national anthem during all official and ceremonial events. Request has also been made to play the song in the state assembly.

Protocols of Maharashtra State Song :

1. All educational institutions, private companies, non governmental organisations and programmes organised by citizens such as cultural, social and sports should give the state song its due respect.

2. Citizens should stand in attention to pay respect to the state song

3. Small children, pregnant women, elderly, disabled and ailing patients are exempted
