Pune: In a daring daylight heist, three robbers used a toy gun to loot gold ornaments worth lakhs from a jewellery shop in Pune’s Dhayari area on Tuesday afternoon, police officials confirmed.

The incident took place at a jewellery store located in Kalubai Chowk. According to authorities, the shop owner Vishnu Sakharam Dahiwal and an employee were present when the crime unfolded.

A man initially entered the shop posing as a customer interested in gold chains. While the owner was showcasing the jewellery, two accomplices entered and joined him. The trio then brandished what appeared to be a pistol, later confirmed to be a toy gun, and threatened the shop owner.

“They hurled abuses, threatened the staff, and made away with approximately 22 tolas (260 grams) of gold,” a police officer said. When the owner tried to resist, the robbers assaulted him using the butt of the pistol, which broke during the scuffle—revealing it to be a fake weapon.
