Pune: Kharadi Resident Scammed Of Rs 96,000 While Booking Doctor Appointment

Cyber criminals tricked a 48-year-old Kharadi resident into giving them Rs 96,000 by pretending to help book a doctor’s appointment. This scam took place on February 21 this year. The person who was scammed reported the incident to the Pune cyber police. Following initial inquiries, a case was officially filed with the Chandannagar police on Thursday.
An officer from the Chandannagar police mentioned that the victim had looked up the doctor’s number on online websites.
“When he called the number, the individual on the line insisted that it was the doctor’s contact number. He instructed the victim to schedule the appointment online,” the officer explained.
The officer mentioned that the suspect instructed the victim to click on a link to book the appointment. Once the victim entered the required information, the scammers stole Rs 96,000 from his bank account,” he explained.
The officer further stated that the ongoing investigations indicate that the suspect gained access to the victim’s phone through the link. “Subsequently, he took the money from the victim’s bank account and deceived him,” the officer added.
