Pune: Kharadi Residents Oppose Ward Structuring, Demand Inclusion Of Riverfront Road In Ward 4
Pune, September 1, 2025 — A major uproar has emerged among residents of Kharadi after the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) recent ward re-structuring moved half of the 1 km-long Kharadi Riverfront Road into Ward 15, leaving the other half under Ward 4. Citizens argue that dividing a single road into two separate administrative wards is “impractical” and will create governance and civic management issues in the future.
Leading the protest are residents of several housing societies situated along Riverfront Road, who have submitted strong objections to the PMC. They have stressed that dividing the stretch across wards will result in confusion over responsibility for civic amenities, road maintenance, waste collection, and infrastructure projects.
PMC Warriors, a well-known citywide civic action group, immediately stepped in to support the residents after receiving the notification. The group, which has been active across Pune in coordinating between citizens and municipal officials, has been mobilizing support and facilitating dialogue with the authorities.
“We have already collected more than 2,500 signatures from residents along with multiple official letters from societies on Riverfront Road and Tithe Wasti,” said Jayesh Maduskar, founder of PMC Warriors and Chairman of Nyati Elysia Cronus, Kharadi. “All these have been submitted to PMC officials. We are in constant touch with the concerned authorities, adhering to the official process. It is heartening to see such overwhelming support from every corner of Kharadi.”
Residents remain hopeful that PMC will consider their objections and reinstate the entire Riverfront Road under Ward 4 for administrative clarity. The demand highlights growing citizen participation in urban planning and local governance, particularly in rapidly developing suburbs like Kharadi.
