Pune: Kothrud Garbage Depot In Poor State; Residents Complain Of Health Hazards
Pune, September 5, 2025: Citizens in Kothrud have raised serious concerns about the poor condition of the local garbage depot, where nearly 2,000 to 3,000 tonnes of waste have been piling up for over a month without proper management.
The situation has worsened during Ganeshotsav as the volume of garbage has increased sharply, and with Navratri approaching, residents fear conditions may deteriorate further.
Locals complain of foul odour, mosquito and fly infestation, and respiratory problems due to the accumulated waste.

What makes the matter more concerning is the proximity of the depot to Kothrud Hospital, which is exposing patients to additional health risks.
Social activist Kiran Ramchandra Adagale has demanded immediate clearance of the waste under the “Zero Garbage” initiative to restore cleanliness in the area. He also urged authorities to strictly monitor contractors, deploy more garbage collection vehicles, and implement effective planning to prevent such crises.
