Pune Leads Maharashtra In Housing Project Violations; MahaRERA To Suspend 1,905 Projects
Pune district has emerged as the top violator of housing project norms in Maharashtra, with 487 non-compliant projects facing stringent action from the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA). The authority is set to suspend the registrations of 1,905 projects across the state for failing to meet regulatory requirements.
Developers in Pune have been penalized with measures like frozen bank accounts, transaction restrictions, and heavy fines. Pune is followed by Raigad with 240 projects and Thane with 204 projects in terms of violations. Meanwhile, Mumbai Suburban has 111 projects under scrutiny, while Mumbai City has 51.
Last month, MahaRERA issued show-cause notices to developers of 10,773 lapsed housing projects, asking them to update their status within 30 days. Out of these, 5,324 developers responded, with 3,517 submitting Occupancy Certificates (OCs) and 524 requesting deadline extensions. However, 3,499 projects failed to comply, leading to action against 1,905 projects, while 45 were cleared after submitting required documents.
MahaRERA mandates developers to update project status quarterly and annually on its website, including submitting progress reports and adhering to completion deadlines. Non-compliance results in penalties, registration suspension, and restrictions on property transactions.
