Pune: Liquor Shop Opens Despite Strong Opposition From Residents Of Society; No Action Yet From Authorities
Wagholi: Despite fierce opposition from local residents, a liquor shop has been opened within the Gagan Adira Cooperative Housing Society premises. The residents have called the shop’s license illegal, stating that it was issued without obtaining a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) from the society or its members. They also allege that the necessary government regulations were overlooked, and the license was granted unlawfully. There are several other societies around the shop who have shown their opposition to the shop. Societies namely Majestique Manhattan, Ravinanda Skylight, Park Lane, Gagan Adira total of at least 3000 flats.
Local citizens, led by BJP Youth Wing Pune District President Sandeep Satav, staged a strong protest outside the beer shop on April 25, 2025, demanding the immediate cancellation of the license. The protest was joined by residents from neighboring societies, including Majestic Manhattan, Parklane Premier, and Skylight. The residents are particularly concerned about the impact of the beer shop on the safety and well-being of women, children, and senior citizens in the area. They fear that the presence of the shop will lead to public disturbances, social unrest, and pose a danger to the community’s safety.
On April 23, 2025, Satav submitted a formal petition, signed by the residents, to Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi and State Excise Officer Pune Charansingh Rajput, urging them to take action. However, no concrete steps have been taken by the authorities so far. As a result, residents have vowed to intensify their protest if the administration does not act promptly.
They have provided substantial evidence supporting their claims and warned that the protest will continue until the authorities take appropriate action to cancel the liquor shop’s license.
When Pune Pulse contacted the officials remained unavailable for any comment.
