Residents of over 18 societies in Kalyani Nagar have complained of having no water supply or water supplied with low-pressure from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for several days.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Yasmin Charania,  a resident of Kalyani Nagar, said, “This water supply issue has been going on for approximately 3-4 weeks. The PMC had cut down the water supply for maintenance work & had said that it would be restored in some days’ time. Since then i.e. December 2023, the water supply for several residential societies in Kalyani Nagar has been in low pressure. No improvement has happened till now. So, why is there such low-pressure water still coming from the PMC? We are paying property tax to the PMC, but still such is the condition of the water supply scenario. This is affecting a lot. If this continues, we will have no choice but to resort to spending a lot of money to buy water tankers.”

Rachna Agarwal, another resident of Kalyani Nagar said, “It’s been 15 to 20 days since a lot of Kalyani Nagar societies are not getting water supply or are getting a very low-pressure water supply. Everyone felt there is a PMC water cut & water supply will resume soon. Now, it is too much. It’s very surprising to see such water cuts even when a lot of water comes from Bhama Askhed dam, Pune Cantonment, and so on. I have raised a complaint to the PMC regarding this. If there is no PMC water cut, then why are we facing this water shortage?”

Monica S,  another resident of Kalyani Nagar said, “As a resident of Kalyani Nagar, the prolonged low water pressure supply and water cuts have become a pressing concern affecting our daily lives for the past 15 days. It’s disheartening to face disruptions in our water supply, an essential aspect of our routine. The recent communication with the Water Works Department has instilled hope for a swift resolution. In light of this, we urge the PMC to conduct audits to ensure that construction activities are utilizing treated water instead of drinking water. Water conservation is a shared responsibility, and construction companies must adhere to sustainable practices. We believe in the collective effort to address this issue and appreciate the PMC’s commitment to the well-being of Kalyani Nagar residents.”
