Pune: Maharashtra Extends RTE School Registration Deadline To January 27
Pune, January 22, 2026: The Maharashtra school education department has extended the deadline for school registration under the Right to Education (RTE) Act to January 27, as the process is yet to reach full completion, officials confirmed.
Schools were earlier instructed to complete registration and verification between January 9 and 20. However, the department revised the timeline to ensure that all eligible institutions participate.
Sharad Gosavi, Director of Primary Education, said the extension aims to achieve 100% registration. “Under the RTE Act, 25% seats in unaided and self-financed schools are reserved for students from economically weaker sections through an online admission process. For the 2026–27 academic year, the school registration and verification link was activated on January 9. So far, 4,871 schools have registered, making 65,658 seats available for RTE admissions across the state,” he said.
Education officers (primary) have been directed to ensure that closed schools, minority institutions, unauthorised schools, and relocated schools are excluded from the RTE 25% admission process for 2026–27. Schools must also register under the correct board; for example, state board schools should not register under central boards.
Officials have been instructed to complete 100% registration and verification of unaided and self-financed schools within the extended deadline.
