Pune, April 29, 2026: In a surprising crackdown, police arrested a 30-year-old man for illegally cultivating cannabis inside a rented bungalow in the Lohgaon area of Pune.

The incident came to light in Pathare Vasti, where the accused had taken a bungalow on rent and secretly grown cannabis plants in the garden. Acting on a tip-off received during routine patrolling, police raided the premises and were stunned by what they found.

The accused, identified as Harsh Bharatkumar Panchal (30), had planted a total of 41 cannabis plants of varying sizes in the bungalow’s garden. Police said the total weight of the seized plants is around 4.5 kilograms. Cannabis was also recovered from the accused’s vehicle.

During the operation, police seized goods worth approximately ₹6 lakh, including cannabis plants, dried ganja, mobile phones, and other materials.

Officials said nine mobile phones were recovered from the spot, which were allegedly used by the accused to contact customers and sell the drugs.

A case has been registered against Panchal under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police are now investigating whether he was operating alone or if more people were involved in the illegal activity.
