Pune: A 37-year-old man, identified as Vikram Guruswamy Reddy, was shot dead following a dispute during a birthday celebration in Dehu Road, Pune, on Thursday night. The incident occurred while Reddy and his friend, Nandkishor Yadav, were celebrating Yadav’s niece’s birthday by the roadside.

According to the police, a group of individuals confronted the duo, objecting to the celebration. The disagreement quickly escalated into a heated argument and a physical altercation. 

During the scuffle, Yadav sustained injuries, and when Reddy intervened, one of the attackers opened fire. Reddy was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Police have identified the suspects and are actively investigating the case.

In a related incident, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police solved a shooting case from January 20 at Kailas Steel Company in the Chakan MIDC area. Initially suspected to be linked to extortion, investigations revealed that the attack stemmed from a family dispute over a ₹12 lakh contract. The victim, Ajay Vikram Singh, was targeted by his cousin, Anant Singh (42), who, along with accomplice Rohit Pandey, orchestrated the attack.

The police tracked and arrested Anant Singh in Madhya Pradesh and Pandey in Uttar Pradesh. Investigations revealed that the suspects had monitored Singh’s movements before executing the attack. The police are pursuing additional suspects involved in the case as the investigation continues.

Police urge residents to remain cautious during public gatherings and promptly report suspicious activity.
