The commuter, Nitin Godbole, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to report the incident, and within a day, the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) responded with details of the driver’s suspension.

Where to complain?@Dev_Fadnavis @msrtcofficial @CMOMaharashtra @AjitPawarSpeaks
Thousands of Punekars rely on Shivneri buses for their daily commutes between Pune and Mumbai, valuing the service for its affordability and safety. However, a routine ride turned into a worrisome experience for Godbole when he noticed the driver was continuously talking on the phone while driving.
Frustrated by the apparent disregard for passenger safety, he posted on X at 11:08 AM on March 22, tagging Maharashtra’s Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, the CMO’s handle, Ajit Pawar, and MSRTC. His post read:
“Shivneri bus Dadar to Swargate 9:30 AM driver continuously talking on the phone while driving. Where to complain?”
This driver was immediately suspended.

CMO’s Quick Response: Driver Suspended
Unlike many complaints that go unnoticed, this one saw prompt action. By 2:23 PM on March 23, Godbole received a reply confirming that the driver had been identified and suspended.
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has been under scrutiny following recent safety concerns at Swargate bus depot, where poor management and security lapses led to severe criticism. The CMO’s swift intervention in this case is seen as a move to restore public trust in state transport services.
Safety Concerns in Public Transport
This incident has reignited conversations around safety in MSRTC buses, with commuters urging stricter monitoring and strict penalties for distracted driving. With increasing concerns about reckless driving, will this action set a precedent for better enforcement in Maharashtra’s transport sector?
For passengers, the takeaway is clear: raising concerns on social media can drive real action!
