Pune Metro official assaulted by Ganesh mandal worker for not fulfilling demands, case registered
Pune: In an extortion case, a Ganesh Mandal worker has been booked by the Pune police for allegedly assaulting an official of metro site construction work, said officials.
The accused Ganesh mandal worker, identified as Shrikant Santosh Maral, has been booked under sections 384 (extortion) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code.
Police revealed that the incident unfolded during the concretization work on a Metro pedestrian bridge near the Z bridge.Shrikant allegedly approached an official from the company engaged in the bridge construction, seeking a sum of Rs 2 lakh for the purchase of a Ganesh idol. When his demand was not fulfilled, the situation escalated, leading Shrikant to assault the company official using a wooden stick and a spade at the construction site.
Police revealed that,currently, no arrests have been made in connection with the case, and an ongoing investigation is being conducted by the police. The police authorities are diligently probing the circumstances surrounding the assault and the alleged extortion attempt.
