Pune, January 14, 2026: Commuters in Pune will get extended metro services on Thursday, January 15, in view of the municipal elections. Pune Metro has announced that trains will begin at 5:00 AM and continue operating until 12:00 midnight, allowing voters and daily travelers extra convenience throughout the day.

The announcement was made through the Metro’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, urging passengers to take note of the temporary schedule adjustment. Normal metro timings will resume from 6:00 AM on Friday, January 16, officials stated.

The revised timetable is expected to be especially helpful for citizens heading out early to cast their votes or returning late from work. With the Pune Municipal Corporation election scheduled for Thursday, the enhanced frequency and extended hours are aimed at ensuring smoother mobility across the city.

Alongside transport preparations, Pune Police has intensified security ahead of polling. The Commissionerate has deployed a large contingent of personnel to maintain order and ensure a peaceful voting environment. The deployment includes senior officers, police inspectors, assistant and sub-inspectors, home guards, and units from the State Reserve Police Force.

In addition, over 140 sectors across the city have been designated for area surveillance, with more than 100 sensitive spots identified for heightened monitoring. Specialized teams, including fixed, mobile, and video surveillance units, have been stationed to prevent violations and maintain transparent polling conditions.

Authorities have appealed to citizens to vote and make use of the extended public transport services arranged for the day.
