Following the recent release of HSC Std XII board exam results, several leading colleges in the city have commenced their undergraduate admission process. Most institutions are adopting a first-come, first-served approach, giving priority to early applicants who meet the eligibility criteria.
Admissions are fully online, with students able to apply for a range of undergraduate programs. Alongside traditional streams like arts, science, and commerce, colleges are also accepting applications for professional and industry-focused courses such as business management, computer applications, and biotechnology.
Modern College (Ganeshkhind) Sees Surge in Skill-Based Program Applications
Dr. Sanjay Kharat, Principal of Modern College of Arts, Science, and Commerce (Ganeshkhind), confirmed that admissions will follow a first-come, first-served model in line with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) guidelines and government reservation norms. He noted that no cut-off criteria will be used this year due to changes introduced by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
High-demand courses include BSc in Data Science, BSc (Blended), BCA (Science), BA in Psychology, BVoc in Food Technology, and various professional and skill-development programs in the engineering and medical sectors.
BMCC Introduces Entrance Tests for Select Courses
BMCC Principal RP Kuchekar stated that while general BCom admissions will be processed based on applications, specialized programs such as BCom Honours and a FinTech course will require entrance tests. Applications must be submitted via the official BMCC website.
Modern College (Shivajinagar) Adds Industry-Focused Courses
At PES’s Modern College (Shivajinagar), Vice Principal Shamkant Deshmukh announced the launch of several new programs aligned with industry demands. In addition to high interest in courses like Computer Science, BBA-BCA, Animation, and Psychology, the college now offers BSc in Data Science, MSc in Animation, BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology, BSc in Imaging Technology, and MSc in Organic Chemistry. The college has also fully digitized its admission process.
St Mira’s College Simplifies Admission Procedures
Principal Neeru Bhagat of St Mira’s College for Girls (Koregaon Park) reported a slight dip in the HSC pass rate this year—91.88% compared to 92.77% previously—which may lower cut-offs across colleges. In response, the college has introduced a simplified admission process accessible via WhatsApp or their website’s admissions page.
New Courses Reflect Industry Trends Across Colleges
Many city colleges are rolling out advanced, career-oriented programs such as MSc in Bioinformatics, MSc in Industrial Mathematics, MSc in Food Science and Technology, MCom in Advanced Accounting and Taxation, along with certifications in AI, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics.
The shift towards online, accessible, and flexible admissions reflects the evolving landscape of higher education, aiming to meet the changing needs of students and align with modern workforce demands.
