Pune, April 11, 2026: Residents of the Mohamadwadi–Undri area organised a candlelight vigil to pay tribute to Aariz Shaikh and Gracia Dora, who lost their lives in separate incidents involving water tankers on NIBM Road and Wanowrie. The vigil, held at Raheja Vista Circle in NIBM Annexe, saw participation from over 200 residents.

The initiative was led by the Mohamadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation, with citizens coming together to express grief and raise concerns over increasing road safety risks posed by heavy vehicles such as water and RMC tankers.

Residents highlighted the urgent need for systemic changes, urging the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to activate water storage tanks near Dorabjee Mall and ensure regular water supply to the area. They argued that improving water infrastructure would significantly reduce the dependency on private water tankers, which frequently operate on these roads.

Participants also demanded stricter regulation and monitoring of tanker movement, citing reckless driving and lack of enforcement as major concerns.

The vigil was attended by former corporator Nanda Lonkar, along with local corporators Atul Tarawade and Prachi Alhat, who assured residents that their concerns would be taken up with the authorities.
