In a groundbreaking achievement, the Pune zone of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) successfully commissioned a total of 2,34,810 new electricity connections across various categories in 2023.

This marks a significant milestone for the Pune circle, surpassing the two lakh figure for new electricity connections in a single year, a considerable increase from the 1,77,231 connections established in 2022.

Traditionally, the Pune circle adds 1-1.5 lakh new electricity connections annually. However, in response to directives from Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and MSEDCL Chairman Lokesh Chandra to expedite the process and enhance customer service, the pace of new connections accelerated from January of the previous year. MSEDCL Chief Engineer Rajendra Pawar played a crucial role in intensifying the review of new connections and meter availability, conducting assessments twice a week since January to ensure prompt meter supply.

The distribution of new electricity connections in 2023 saw 1,98,659 allocated to households, 26,866 to commercial establishments, 3,768 to industrial units, and 5,517 to agricultural and miscellaneous sectors. Pune city alone received 1,41,441 new connections, while Pimpri Chinchwad secured 72,466, and rural areas collectively received 61,903 connections. The pace of electricity connections within the Pune Circle surged from 15,000-16,000 per month to 19,550 per month in 2023, reaching 20,100 connections monthly since April.

Expressing satisfaction, Chief Engineer Rajendra Pawar remarked, “This achievement is a source of satisfaction and joy for the Pune circle. We are dedicated to intensifying our efforts and maintaining this momentum.” Pawar also commended the collective commitment of engineers, officers, and employees in delivering efficient service to consumers within prescribed timelines.
