The East Haveli Driver Workers’ Association (Poorva Haveli Driver Kaamgar Sanghatana) staged an agitation in Wagholi on January 10 (Wednesday) requesting the government to repeal the new hit-and-run law.  Garlands made up of footwear were put on the drivers who did not participate in the agitation.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Hira Waghmare, Vice President, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, Pune City & member of Poorva Haveli driver Kamgar Sanghatana said, “Today’s agitation was done by several drivers to express their anger against the new hit & run law. It took place at around 11 am at Bhavdi Road, Wagholi. Around 400 to 500 drivers of heavy vehicles like buses, trucks, and tempos participated in the agitation. The main demand of the agitation was about scrapping the new hit-and-run law permanently. Also, garlands made of footwear were put on such drivers who did not participate in the agitation.”

The association has warned of intense agitation if the hit-and-run law passed by the central government is not repealed. Drivers from Wagholi, Lonikand, Bhavdi, Phulgaon, and surrounding areas participated in the agitation.
