Maharashtra Weather Alert: IMD Issues Orange Alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Pune Ghats  

Pune, July 21, 2026: After a brief lull, the southwest monsoon is expected to regain strength across Maharashtra, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an Orange Alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and the Pune Ghat region. The department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds reaching 50–60 kmph, urging residents to remain cautious.

According to the IMD, weather conditions are becoming increasingly favourable for widespread rainfall over the Konkan coast and the Western Ghats, with the next two days expected to witness intensified monsoon activity.

Orange Alert for Konkan, Yellow Alert in Several Districts

The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for:

• Mumbai
• Thane
• Raigad
• Pune Ghat region

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in these areas, along with gusty winds of 50–60 kmph.

A Yellow Alert has been issued for:

• Palghar
• Ratnagiri
• Nashik Ghat region
• Satara Ghat region

These districts are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated locations.

Rain Likely Across Western Maharashtra

Light to moderate rainfall is forecast for:

• Pune district
• Ahilyanagar
• Satara
• Sangli
• Kolhapur
• Solapur

The Pune Ghat region is expected to receive particularly heavy showers due to enhanced monsoon activity over the Western Ghats.

North Maharashtra to Witness Moderate Rain

Districts including:

• Dhule
• Nandurbar
• Jalgaon
• Nashik

are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall. The Nashik Ghat areas remain under a Yellow Alert because of the possibility of heavy showers in isolated places.

Marathwada Awaits Significant Rainfall

No colour-coded weather warning has been issued for:

• Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
• Jalna
• Parbhani
• Beed
• Hingoli
• Nanded
• Latur
• Dharashiv

The IMD has forecast light rain and generally cloudy skies across the region. However, rainfall has remained below expectations, and farmers continue to await more substantial precipitation.

Vidarbha to Receive Light Showers

No alerts have been issued for:

• Akola
• Amravati
• Buldhana
• Bhandara
• Chandrapur
• Gadchiroli
• Gondia
• Nagpur
• Wardha

Cloudy conditions with light rainfall are expected over the coming days.

Citizens Advised to Exercise Caution

With strong winds and intense rainfall likely in parts of Maharashtra, particularly along the Konkan coast and Ghat sections, the IMD has advised residents to stay updated with official weather bulletins, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain, and take precautions against waterlogging, falling trees, and reduced visibility on roads.

Authorities have also urged farmers and the public to follow weather advisories as monsoon activity is expected to remain active over the next few days.
