Pune Municipal Corporation Implements New SOP To Combat Vector-Borne Diseases
In response to a sharp rise in cases of Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika virus, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to tackle the outbreak. According to PMC officials, the new action plan involves several key measures to control and mitigate the spread of these vector-borne diseases.
Nurses from nearby healthcare facilities will conduct house-to-house surveys in outbreak-affected areas to identify patients exhibiting symptoms such as fever, body aches, rashes, and joint pain. Should the number of cases increase significantly, field hospitals will be established to offer free treatment.
Meetings with general practitioners in the affected areas will be organized to ensure timely reporting of cases. Additionally, private laboratories in these areas will also be engaged to aid in monitoring and response efforts.
The PMC is also focusing on preventing the spread of fear and misinformation among residents. Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) programs will be launched, including morning rallies and training sessions in schools to educate students on identifying mosquito breeding sites.
Dr. Dighe mentioned that a letter has been issued to all ward medical officers, instructing them to maintain records of fever patients. High-risk pregnant women who test positive for the Zika virus are being registered for regular check-ups and treatment.
Awareness programs will be conducted in large residential societies, and informational materials will be posted at key locations to keep the public informed. The PMC aims to curb the spread of these diseases through these comprehensive measures.
