PUNE : A significant step forward has been taken for the proposed Pune-Nashik railway line, as the Cantonment Board (PCB) of Pune has granted approval for the transfer of approximately 3.5 acres of land. The approval was secured during a general body meeting of the cantonment on Monday. Following this decision, the land will now be handed over to the Maharashtra Railway Infrastructure Development Corporation (Maha Rail), which will utilize it for the construction of infrastructure valued at Rs 34 Crore within the cantonment zones.

The Pune-Nashik railway line, hailed as India’s pioneering budget-friendly semi-high-speed corridor, holds the promise of not only enhancing connectivity across key industrial zones such as Chakan, Alandi, Khed, Manchar, Narayangaon, and Sinnar, but also offering improved commuting options for residents in both cities. The district administration has been actively collaborating with local farmers to facilitate the acquisition of land required for this ambitious project. With a comprehensive network of 24 stations planned, the entire venture is estimated to necessitate an investment of approximately Rs 16,039 Crore.

The process of securing this land has entailed persistent efforts by Maha Rail, a collaborative endeavor between the state government and the Ministry of Railways, which has been diligently liaising with the defense ministry.
